Joey Man is an Investment Analyst with Tenmile based in Melbourne, where she enjoys working on a diverse portfolio of innovative technologies that have the potential to transform the biotech and medtech landscape. Joey holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Monash University’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute, her research focusing on breast cancer cell signalling and metastasis. Joey held a postdoctoral position at CSIRO’s Future Space platform, investigating the effects of zero gravity on stem cell behaviour. She went on to discover a passion for entrepreneurship and investing during her time at Main Sequence Ventures, particularly in university spinouts and company formation, which further developed through participation in the CSIRO's ON Accelerator program. This experience cemented her passion for the intersection of science and business.

Kelsee Sewellis Executive Assistant & Operations Lead at Tenmile. She plays a pivotal role in streamlining operations, supporting executive leadership, and helping the business run at pace with purpose. Kelsee has over a decade of experience navigating complex corporate environments and brings calm, clarity, and energy to her role. Known for her relentlessly positive, can-do attitude she is the person to ask if you don’t know where to start. Her background includes managing diverse teams, solving operational challenges, and driving projects with agility and persistence. She holds qualifications in business and project management.

John Hartman is a member of the Investment Committee at Tenmile, and the Chief Executive Officer of Tattarang and the Minderoo Foundation. He was previously Chief Investment Officer of Tattarang and Minderoo Foundation, holding the role since 2012. As CEO of Tattarang, John oversees one of Australia’s largest and most diverse private investment group. It has more than $35bn of assets under management across a range of sectors including agri-food, energy, resources, property and health-tech. John holds several board positions, including Chairman of Squadron Energy, Wyloo Metals and R.M. Williams. John also leads the Minderoo Foundation, an independent philanthropic organisation committed to tackling tough, persistent global challenges. Through bold ideas, systems change, and scalable solutions, Minderoo focuses on uplifting communities, advancing gender equality, protecting the ocean, and responding to emerging challenges.

Aizaz Syed is the Senior Portfolio and Investment Manager at Tenmile based in Melbourne, where he leads, originates and manages investments as well as overseeing the overall portfolio. He has spent the last 10 years investing in early-stage technologies, strategy, financial and commercial advisory roles in Australia. Prior to Tenmile, Az was an Investment Director at early-stage investment firm Nightingale Partners and he began his career in Corporate and Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Aizaz graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws and is admitted as a solicitor to the NSW Supreme Court.

Liz Dallimore is a member of the Investment Committee at Tenmile. Liz is the CEO and Managing Director of Argenica Therapeutics (ASX: AGN), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing neuroprotective therapeutics for neurological conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. With more than 20 years’ experience across biotechnology and management consulting in Australia and the UK, Liz has held senior roles at KPMG, Ernst & Young and PwC. She was the co-founder and Executive Chairman of the medical device company Inspiring Holdings Pty Ltd, and a Non-Executive Director on the Board of AusBiotech. Liz holds a PhD in neuroscience from both the University of Oxford and the University of Western Australia, an MBA in Innovation and Technology from the Australian Graduate School of Management, and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Arjun Balaji is a practicing medical doctor and Investment Associate in Tenmile’s Melbourne office. Arjun’s diverse technical and clinical interests and expertise span biotechnology and related applications of machine learning. Arjun has a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Australia and his primary clinical work in nephrology, cardiothoracic and general surgery and emergency has been as a resident in WA. He has worked as a computational bioinformatician at PYC Therapeutics and conducted research at the Harry Perkins Institute. His research on using machine learning to analyse cardiac radiography scans was published in Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. Arjun holds a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Physics.

Steve Burnell is the Managing Director of Tenmile and Chair of the Investment Committee. Tenmile is an Australian health technology venture capital company owned by Tattarang, one of Australia’s largest private companies. Steve’s professional experience spans research, philanthropy, strategy consulting, M&A, and operating global businesses in fields as diverse as ecology, digital health, and precision oncology. He is relentlessly passionate about the power of new technology to positively impact human health and mitigate our climate impacts. Prior to his current role, Steve managed a global business, led M&A and established a new informatics and real-world data business for the world’s largest biotech, Roche-Genentech based in the USA. He remains a senior strategic advisor to Minderoo Foundation where he has led large initiatives focused on COVID-19, Cancer, and Ocean Genomics amongst others. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biology and a Ph.D. in Population Biology from the University of Sydney.

Emily Casey is Community & Partnership Lead at Tenmile, based in Sydney, specialised in Strategic Partnerships, Communications & Engagement activities, and digital health. Emily completed the majority of an BMSci/MD, including a research thesis on the impact of speed on severity of injury in pedestrian road traumas, but then left for the world of Finance and tech. As well as her role at Tenmile, Emily also runs Australia’s most engaged healthtech community & media company, What the Health. Emily was previously Principal and employee #1 at Side Stage Ventures, managing a syndicate of 90+ investors and building it into a +$20m seed fund with 19 investments. She also looked after 90+ Scaleups at Stone & Chalk Melbourne, and was briefly at Westpac Institutional Bank.

Michael Lamprecht is an Investment Manager at Tenmile, based in Sydney, specializing in biotechnology, startups, and early-stage investments. With over 15 years in the field, he has a unique background in developing regulatory and clinical strategies for novel cell-based therapies. His previous roles include Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Xora Innovation, Singapore, and Director of Regulatory Affairs at EpiBone, a U.S. biotech firm pioneering adult stem cell-based bone and cartilage grafts. Mike holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from Columbia University, along with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Boston University.

Ros Wilson is a member of the Investment Committee at Tenmile. Ros is a medical doctor and MBA graduate of London Business School, with deep expertise in the development and commercialisation of new medicines across the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. Her career began in clinical practice before joining F. Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche), where she worked across Australia, the UK, and Switzerland in both primary and specialty care. During her time at Roche, she led the team responsible for the development of pertuzumab (Perjeta) for HER2-positive breast cancer. Ros has provided strategic drug development expertise to a range of pharmaceutical and biotech clients, with a particular focus on preclinical and early-stage clinical programs. She has also held executive leadership roles including Chief Executive Officer at Factor Therapeutics (ASX: FTT) and Global Head of Drug Development at Telix Pharmaceuticals (ASX: TLX), and led lung cancer clinical research efforts in the non-profit sector.
Our name
Tenmile pool on the Ashburton River, in Western Australia, is a permanent and reliable source of clean water which has supported people and wildlife for millennia. A fitting name for an organisation that is supporting Australia’s most innovative entrepreneurs and impactful health ideas with reliable capital.
